The need for immediate and accurate data in order to make daily decisions is essential to a successful response for Texas constituents. The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) relies on the collection and dissemination of COVID-19 related data from different sources to respond to the pandemic. Through the newly-implemented Infectious Disease Data Integration (IDDI) platform, the agency collected and integrated data from various critical, but disparate source systems. Though IDDI moved the agency’s goals forward to collect, integrate and curate the required data set, the continued differences in data formats, variances in the data quality of the source systems, and the unprecedented volume of data that is now collected on a daily basis poses a continued challenge to maintain uniformity and integrity and provide public accessibility to this critical data that IDDI has integrated, curated and reported. It is imperative for DSHS to overcome this challenge of collecting, sharing and exchanging data with key stakeholders.
