Overview

The Small Cell Technician installs, troubleshoots and tests small cell sites. The Small Cell Technician will be the first to respond to outages and impairments and make the needed repairs to assigned networks. This role also requires preventative maintenance inspections to small cell equipment and host related equipment as well as the application of safe work practices to all work-related tasks.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installation of small cell hardware and equipment for both aerial and underground locations
  • Installation and termination of ½” coaxial cables
  • Installation of required power and grounding
  • Read and interpret blueprints and other project documents, including, but not limited to, specifications, reporting, and design requirements
  • Operation and understanding of RF test equipment such as PIM unit, Sweep meter and Light meter
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies and their potential application on client engagements
  • Operate in a safe manner in accordance with published safety guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Managerial Responsibility

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

 

Qualifications

Physical Demands:

  • Travel away from home for several weeks may be required on demand, and shift work may be required on demand
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors, on ladders, and in confined spaces
  • Ability to work with and around electrical wires and components and/or ESD products
  • Ability to work remotely at construction or installation sites

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to perform daily operations without direct supervision
  • Ability to suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew
  • Ability to evaluate site conditions to include environmental temperature and general operating conditions without supervision
  • Must be willing to work in a bucket truck
  • Must work in a team environment that requires regular communication with other Telamon employees, vendors, and clients
  • Ability to recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical line diagrams and blueprints
  • Solid foundation of OHM’s law and electronic theory
  • Ability to read a compass and determine azimuths
  • Ability to create documentation needed to submit closeouts to customer

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 5 years telecommunication experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Small Cell Technician
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in PIM Testing and Sweep Testing
  • Experience operating and driving a bucket truck, including a boom, in a public right of way
  • Experience using JMA connector or other connectors
